YAY! We made it to week 12!
This 12-week project has been a great journey. Overall we could say this project has been a success! Throughout these 12 weeks, we did 10 kindness acts plus a bonus act. Each week taught us a big takeaway, small gestures are in realty big gestures. Something so small as a piece of candy or a compliment can help someone out and make their day. We started realizing this on week 3, the kindness highlighters. We got so many compliments and it was a big hit and even some people were talking about it. We even did another interactive week, kindness suckers. This was a real eye opener for us that we are already on a great start! Although, the struggles; the biggest struggle was COVID Restrictions. We experienced these while originally donating the homemade blankets to Brenner Children Hospital, but unfortunately they have yet lifted their policy, so we are hopefully going giving them to a Children's Home. The last unofficial act that we did was during our presentation on 5/25/23. At the end we gave the whole class suckers! Our presentation went very well. Overall this project will hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you for all of the support and following us on this journey!! Remember to be kind! - Mallorie and Claire

On Saturday, May 13th I (Mallorie) went and volunteered at the Blue Door Restore from 10am- 12pm.
Mallories POV This week was a bonus week that I did to help out the Blue Door Restore. You might recognize this name if you have read the previous blogs. Claire and I went there on week 4 to Donate clothes to the foster family's. While there I learned a lot about the program and how they benefit the Foster Family Community. During my two hours volunteering, I sorted and hung clothes on racks for people to choose. I met so many amazing people including the two people who started this! I also met many foster family's there that were shopping. They told me that I was doing such an amazing thing and said this helps them out in so many ways! I plan on continuing to volunteer there because of the amazing purpose they serve. Final week!! This week we are a little behind because of some struggles we had to overcome. Our original plan was to give them to children at Brenner's Hospital, but with COVID-19 restrictions this was not possible. So, we had to come up with a new plan. This week we made Tie- Blankets for a children's home, Ebeneezer Christian Children's Home. Mallories POV This week was most definitely my favorite! This was really special to me personally because we used to foster out of this home and they trained us how to be foster parents. We had 2 kids come through our home, 1 boy and 1 girl. The girl stayed with us for almost 3 1/2 years! Being in this system really inspired me to do this act of kindness because I know how hard it can be for them. Being able to see the workers there light up with happiness after seeing the blankets and hearing out school project essentially made this project a success. This act will forever have a special place in my heart! Claires POV I really liked this week because it was fun and relaxing to make the blankets and I know they go to kids who will really appreciate it and need them, which is my favorite part about this project because its important to help people in need if you can. It is a really good feeling when you know you are helping others and making them happy. I have really enjoyed doing all of these acts of kindness because not only does it make yourself feel good, it makes others feel good and recognized. 4/24-4/28
For week 9 Claire and I took advantage of the day off of school on Friday and brought doughnuts to Mocksville Fire Department. We only have 1 more week left! But we were thinking of adding a bonus week! Mallorie's POV This week we went out on our day off and made it productive! We went to food lion and bought some doughnuts for the fire department near downtown Mocksville. When we arrived there were many teenagers that I assume volunteered at the department. The firefighters were very kind and appreciative of the kind act. It made me realize that those teens might someday be a first res ponder and help so many people. I think it is important to make sure all of the first responder know that they are appreciated. Doing this project we did focus on people in our community and we did get the three first responders involved in our project. Claire's POV 4-16/4-21
This week Claire and I, went outside on the road that we live on and picked up trash alongside the road. Mallorie's POV While completing this week's act of kindness; picking up trash, was a real eye opener for me. I realized that we litter so much. I live on a farm and have animals and realized that they could've easily gotten a hold of this trash ingesting it and making it a higher chance for them to have health complications. I only went down and picked up trash along half of my road because of the distance, but I picked up at least half of a bag of trash (in a giant trash bag). The majority of the trash was soda and beer cans along with food wrappers. I had help from my sister holding the bag, so I could easily place the trash in the bag. Claire's POV This week's act of kindness was picking up trash. You do not realize how much trash there is until you really look at it. Most of the trash i picked up was cans like beer and soda. There were also food wrappers and some glass and plastic bottles. I also had my sister help me with this, it also made the process go faster. But I think this was a good thing to do. 4/3-4/7
During Spring Break Claire, Our sisters, and myself, all went out to Somer Set Court Nursing home and gave out Easter Cards for the residents. Mallories POV This week was a special week. I remember as a child for church or girl scouts we would bring little things or sing songs for the residents during Christmas time. I love doing this because some residents are alone and don't have as much family to visit them, so getting a little card brings a smile to their face. The Nurses at Somer Set were super sweet and wanted us to come back to help out as well! With painting finger nails and helping them have a girls day. Claires POV This random act of kindness was a simple but good one! Elderly people in nursing homes sometimes do not get a lot of visitors or gifts, so hopefully giving them these cards made their day and made them happy. All of the nurses were really nice and thankful that we stopped by and told us we can come by anytime to help them out because the people there really like visitors. 3/27-3/31
This week we went to the Davie County EMS station 1. We gave the first responders Chick-Fli-A chocolate chip cookies. Mallorie POV This week was another good one! Me, Claire, my sister, and Claire's sister all rode out and dropped off cookies for the EMS station in Mocksville. This was an important one to do because first responders have an extremely vital job in the community and sometimes they do not get enough credit for it. They loved the cookies and when I asked to take a picture they made sure to get all of the crew together and made sure that it was perfect. Claires POV I liked this weeks random act of kindness because it is important that the first responders get the recognition they deserve because it is something people can take advantage of. They have very important jobs and help people in need. They really appreciated the cookies and it was nice for them to get the crew together for a picture! 3/20-3/24
This week was handing out the "kindness suckers". Mallories POV This week was probably my favorite week so far! The suckers were so cute with the presentation of the wrapping, that were made to be a flower. When handing them out I saw smile on their faces, people saying "Awe", "omg these are so cute", and "I just want to carry this around all day!". This really bring joy to me when I can see just a little thing like a sucker make someones day better. Another reason people enjoyed them is when I handed them out to the yearbook staff they loved this. We've had a stressful week in yearbook as we are trying to get it submitted in a few days, it was great to enjoy a little treat! Claires POV This weeks act of kindness was a simple but good one! Everyone likes lollipops, so when we would give them to people they seemed pretty happy about it. I like doing nice things for people even when it’s something small like this because the smallest things can change someone’s day. 3/13-3/17
This week we donated our old clothes to Blue Door Restore. Mallories POV This week I donated my old clothes that were in good condition and some clothes that I did not wear anymore. These included, shorts, tank tops, shoes, etc. This week made me feel good to give away my clothes that I do not wear anymore to someone I know will wear them. It also made me feel selfless, so I did not have to keep my clothes all to my self. I hope that the people who get my clothes create the best styles with them! Claires POV This week we are donating old clothes to people who need them. This is always a good thing to do because having clothes is a big need! I have a lot of clothes I do not wear and they just sit in my closet and dresser, so donating these will not only help me but will help other. I will be giving away clothes in good condition like shirts, shorts, pants, shoes, etc. This makes me feel good because I am helping others. 3/6-3/10
This weeks random act of kindness was giving highlighter with a little note to teachers and students. Mallories POV I think this project has a big impact on people because you never know what they are going through and if they just need a smile today and today's act of kindness really showed that. When I was giving out the highlighters throughout today I have gotten comments like, " this is so cute", "you did not know how much this means to me", and just a smile on someones face. This had then made me feel really good for choosing this week because at first we did not know if we would do this and if people would even appreciate it. Overall this week was a super successful week! Claires POV I really likes this act of kindness because when we would give them to people it would make them look happy and everyone said something like "thank you so much!" "i love this so much" "this made me happy" "you made my day!" and it feels good to help peoples day get better by just doing something simple. It makes me feel like a better person and i think it was a success! |
